ANTI GRAFFITI COATING SYSTEMS
Generally there are two systems used when involving Anti Graffiti Coating Systems.
These are Sacrificial and Non sacrificial.
SACRIFICIAL COATINGS.
The sacrificial Anti Graffiti coating systems are generally. Water based environmentally friendly coatings with a sacrificial Layer which should remain effective for up to 10yrs if not removed.
They are best suited for treating absorbent, cementitious building materials on wall areas, in certain cases they will go over non absorbent substrates. You should always test for suitability and compatibility first.
Generally when applied the surface to be treated will remain as it is but its colour will deepen slightly plus the gloss levels will be slightly reduced.
To removed Graffiti from the surface which has a sacrificial coating on it, either hot steaming on porous surfaces or an Anti Graffiti removing agent/gel on non porous surfaces. After removal the Sacrificial Anti Graffiti coating will have to be re applied.
This is why it is call sacrificial because during the cleaning process the coating Sacrifices itself to remove the Graffiti on it.
This Product does not come in colours and is a Milky Looking product when wet but dries to a clear finish.
NON SACRIFICIAL COATING
Generally these coating systems are Two Pac Systems and can be Either Solvent or Water Based. The Two Pac meaning that there are Two Parts to the System which have to be mixed together.
Being more environmentally friendly the Water based product has revolutionised a high performance permanent anti Graffiti coating which is easy to apply of Low odour and quick drying.
These Products provide long term protection over Cement Renders, Brick work and other masonry surfaces.
Other benefits are that it is available in a Matt, Lo sheen or Gloss finish and in a wide range of colours as well as clear.
Graffiti is removed from this coating using a graffiti removing agent or in some cases Hot water or pressure cleaning. After Graffiti has been removed no further action is required as the coating should still be intact.

Are cheap contractors putting your project success at risk?
Our time in this industry has shown us our fair share of price competition from those willing to cut a corner or 2 for a quick buck, but its finally nice to see the times change with greater awareness of quality, safety and professionalism.
As the saying goes “You get what you pay for” and our clients realise the difference a professionally managed team can make to the success of their project.
check this guy out standing on a ladder on the back of a ute!
It’s when we see images like this guy (above) that we get reminded who and what we are up against.
Our Fit Out division actually tendered on this project and
the reason we didn’t win it is now obvious, we actually allowed for safe access, trade qualified, professional company tradesman to perform the works, and a dedicated manager to ensure quality, safety and a scheduled delivery.
It’s images like this that make you realise how they get to provide a coat of paint at impossible rates.
We encourage the building industry to SAY NO! to contractors that put more at risk than just their own safety, we must remove unsafe work practices from the industry by ensuring your project standards are not compramised by amatuer tradespeople.
When your looking at your next group of tenders, make sure you’re reviewing apples with apples and don’t request we match prices of the lemons out there.
A Quality Finish for a Quality School
We have recently completed works on the new buildings at TSS (The Southport School) . This project saw our render / paint teams both deliver a fantastic finish on this heritage style designed building.
The corbel band angles around the pillars & walls came up great with our render team putting in an extra effort to show they are the best in the business, providing a finish second to none over the entire project.

A project that has enjoyed the successful run that only a well organised construction team can deliver. Usher & Son managed to gain the development team a saving through a simple change to the exterior finishes.
Achieving the same design effects by using render instead of other (more costly) materials our solid plastering division have come up with an amazing finish to the multi coloured feature walls on the exterior of this building.

Trade Tips – Yellowing Gloss
Premature Yellowing of Alkyd/Oil based Paints
(White or Light Coloured Enamels)
- Lack of exposure to ultra violet light(natural daylight). When surfaces are painted and then have little or no exposure to the natural day light, yellowing occurs. Examples being, Cavity doors, Inside of cupboard doors and frames, Skirting’s behind furniture, dark rooms or Hallways in general.
- Exposure to Products containing ammonia. This is usually a problem during new construction. The Ceiling and wall paint products used in conjunction with the Alkyd/oil based enamels during new construction, contain ammonia. Most Water based paint products contain ammonia. This particular scenario can increase the likely hood of yellowing by up to 20 times the normal rate. (Within a matter of weeks rather than months the yellowing can become apparent).
Also be aware in the early stages of painting to avoid cleaning products which contain ammonia. These too will have the same effect.
HINTS TO PREVENT YELLOWING. Avoid the use of White or pale coloured Alkyd/oil based enamels where there is little or no exposure to natural light. Avoid application of Alkyd/oil based enamels until any water based products on the walls and ceilings have had sufficient time to dry thus allowing the ammonia to evaporate out of them. (Does not always fit in with work schedules). Avoid the use of household cleaners containing ammonia for approx 2 weeks.
Unfortunately the above hints will only delay the eventual yellowing process. Nature of the Product due to its makeup. Alkyd/oil based enamels contain vegetable oils. These oils react with Oxygen in the air to produce the tough shiny finish surface; it is also these oils which yellow.
