The Gloss
Rendered in Design
A project that has enjoyed the successful run that only a well organised construction team can deliver. Usher & Son managed to gain the development team a saving through a simple change to the exterior finishes.
Achieving the same design effects by using render instead of other (more costly) materials our solid plastering division have come up with an amazing finish to the multi coloured feature walls on the exterior of this building.
A fantastic out come to a great development and another fine finish Usher & Son are proud to put their name to.

Trade Tips – Yellowing Gloss
Premature Yellowing of Alkyd/Oil based Paints
(White or Light Coloured Enamels)
- Lack of exposure to ultra violet light(natural daylight). When surfaces are painted and then have little or no exposure to the natural day light, yellowing occurs. Examples being, Cavity doors, Inside of cupboard doors and frames, Skirting’s behind furniture, dark rooms or Hallways in general.
- Exposure to Products containing ammonia. This is usually a problem during new construction. The Ceiling and wall paint products used in conjunction with the Alkyd/oil based enamels during new construction, contain ammonia. Most Water based paint products contain ammonia. This particular scenario can increase the likely hood of yellowing by up to 20 times the normal rate. (Within a matter of weeks rather than months the yellowing can become apparent).
Also be aware in the early stages of painting to avoid cleaning products which contain ammonia. These too will have the same effect.
HINTS TO PREVENT YELLOWING. Avoid the use of White or pale coloured Alkyd/oil based enamels where there is little or no exposure to natural light. Avoid application of Alkyd/oil based enamels until any water based products on the walls and ceilings have had sufficient time to dry thus allowing the ammonia to evaporate out of them. (Does not always fit in with work schedules). Avoid the use of household cleaners containing ammonia for approx 2 weeks.
Unfortunately the above hints will only delay the eventual yellowing process. Nature of the Product due to its makeup. Alkyd/oil based enamels contain vegetable oils. These oils react with Oxygen in the air to produce the tough shiny finish surface; it is also these oils which yellow.

Energy Saving Coatings

Body Corporate Repaint – Acton Crt

A New Face For Amira.

Amira is an apartment building located a stones throw from the golden sands of the Gold Coast beaches. Not a new building by any means our maintenance / repaint team got stuck right into this building in the last few months.
Our render team have done a fantastic job at repairing the steal & concrete structure while dynamic team management came up with the coast’s first 18m swinging stage allowing our team to cover an entire face of the building at once. Soon to be completed this building will boast a new coating & colour to make it withstand another decade against the coastal weather extremes.

A Brighter Day at Dreamworld
From Floors & walls to Rides, Stores & Stands Usher & Son are getting very artistic putting the colour back into the fun & games at Dreamworld.
The Difference & Benefits of ACRYLIC PAINT
The Difference & Benefits of
The main differences between Acrylic or water based paint and Alkyd or oil/solvent based paint are as follows.
- Acrylic paint is made from different resins and polymers which are held suspended in water and as such dry by a different method.
- When applied the water in the Acrylic paint evaporates which causes the polymers to bind together creating the paint film.
- This coating is designed to maximise resistance to weathering without being too hard or rigid for use as house paints.
- Benefits Of Using Acrylics as opposed to Alkyd paints.
- Application: They brush or roll on very easily.
- Clean up: Simply clean equipment in water.
- Quick drying: Touch dry in 30 minutes and usually re-coatable in 2 hours.
- Flexibility: Acrylics actually stretch and contract so that normal climatic conditions affecting timber or other surfaces will not crack the paint.
- Acrylics can also ”breathe” allowing water vapour out instead of blistering. On the other hand they won”t let water in so the surface remains waterproof.
- A choice of finishes: Acrylics are available in a wide range of colours and several finishes ranging from flat to high gloss. Although the gloss finish is not as full as an Alkyd or oil based enamel the gloss level is retained much better.
